We Step Into the Light: Healing Trauma Through Art

Presented by UCI Campus Assault Resources and Education (CARE)

“We Step Into the Light,” is a project that promotes the healing of survivors of sexual violence through art.  The mission of this project, originally created by Dr. Desmonette Hazley, depicts how survivors of sexual violence have grown from just “surviving” life to thriving in it.  Though a survivor’s personal experience makes up a part of who they are, they are not entirely defined by being a survivor.  Like every other person, they are made up of dreams, passions, ambitions and beauty.

This February, the CARE Office is collaborating with UCI student artists and survivors to bring “We Step Into the Light” to Center for Living Peace.  This event not only provides an opportunity of healing and comfort, but it raises awareness about the prevalence of sexual assault and gives the community an opportunity to better understand and support the thrivers.  Come join us to admire these inspirational art pieces, listen to powerful performances, and most importantly celebrate the growth and resilience of our thrivers.
