About “The Syringa Tree”
In a film of the original New York production, The Syringa Tree is directed by Larry Moss and produced by Matt Salinger. It is a story of two families separated by racism and connected by love. Pamela Gien, the playwright and performer, plays twenty-six characters in a moving portrayal of South African life from early apartheid to present day free South Africa. Critically acclaimed, the play ran in New York for two years, in London, Canada, Europe, and South Africa. Winner of the Obie Award and numerous Best Solo Performance Awards internationally, Pamela Gien will join us for a wonderful discussion after the film.
Random House commissioned the story as a novel, published in 2006 to superb reviews.
